How to Complete IRB CITI Training for Vanderbilt

CITI Training must be completed before engaging in human subjects research

  1. Go to www.citiprogram.org
  2. Click on the “Registration” button on the CITI Main Menu to create a user account for yourself, giving special attention to these fields
    • Select “Vanderbilt University” as your institution and click the “Create a CITI Program Account” button.
    • On the CITI- Learner Registration page, enter the same First Name and Last Name that displays in your Vanderbilt YES portal (yes.vanderbilt.edu)
    • Enter your official Vanderbilt e-mail address into the field “Email address.”
  3. On the “Option of receiving Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit,” page, click “No”.
  4. On the sixth page of the Registration, provide the information requested by Vanderbilt University, giving special attention to these fields
    • Institutional email address – Enter your Vanderbilt e-mail address, which is your official Vanderbilt student e-mail address
    • Employee Number – Enter your Commodore ID, example: 000123456)
  5. On the “Appropriate Course Path(s)” page, select, “I would like to view courses available for Human Subjects Research” option, and then on the next registration page, select “I need to complete a basic course.”.
  6. On the next registration page titled “Human Subjects Research“,  select “Group 2: Social Behavioral Investigators and Key Personnel – 4 required modules” option.
  7. You have now completed CITI registration.
  8. To access the course, go to the My Courses section on the CITI Main Menu and click on “View Courses” button. On the next page, you should see the Human Subjects Protection Group 2. Social / Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel course.
  9. To start the course, click the “Start Now” button.
    • Note: A passing score of 75% or more is required for course completion.
  10. You may choose to complete the training in one session or in multiple sessions. Once you have completed your CITI training, please let your research mentor know.
