The Socio-Technical Interaction Research (STIR) Lab at ICSI is excited to welcome Dr. Prakriti Dumaru as a Postdoctoral Scholar!
Dumaru earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Utah State University, where her dissertation, “A Value Sensitive Design Approach to Reimagining Parental Control Apps,” explored how technologies for families can move beyond restriction and surveillance toward open communication, self-regulation, and developmentally appropriate support.
Her research has reimagined parental control technologies for co-parenting households, children with autism, and families navigating different developmental stages. Her work strongly aligns with the STIR Lab’s commitment to HCI, youth online safety, Value Sensitive Design, and human-centered and responsible AI.
Dr. Pamela Wisniewski is thrilled to welcome Dumaru to the team and looks forward to their shared work toward an important goal: creating technologies that empower teens and families, rather than simply monitor them.
Welcome to STIR and ICSI, Prakriti! 🎉
