WESH 2 News interviewed Dr. Pamela Wisniewski about teens social media use, top 3 apps to look out for, and how parents can ensure online safety for their teens. Dr. Wisniewski talked about Tiktok, Poparazzi, and Discord as popular apps amongst youth that parents should be aware of so teens are not harmed by them. She highlighted the need for open communication and teaching teens coping strategies, rather than simply blocking their use.
“We need to treat technology as a tool rather than something that’s evil and bad,” she said. “Because as soon as we start taking that fear-based approach to using technology, our teens are just going to tune us out.”
