SafeLINC Advances Youth Safety

A senior design team of UCF Computer Science students presented their work on SafeLINC, a mobile app designed to improve suicide safety planning for youth aged 10-24. SafeLINC offers an interactive, secure, and culturally sensitive approach, addressing gaps in existing mobile health (mHealth) apps.

Incorporating the six dimensions of the Stanley and Brown safety planning framework, SafeLINC features data sharing with parents and clinicians and visualizes progress over time. A user study with 10 young adults found that participants preferred SafeLINC over an open-source alternative, highlighting its potential for supporting mental health management.

Mamtaj Akter, now an Assistant Professor at NYIT, mentored the team, while Dr. Pamela Wisniewski sponsored the project, emphasizing its role in tackling this pressing public health issue.
