Dr. Pamela Wisniewski co-organized the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Visioning Workshop on “Supporting At-Risk Users Through Responsible Computing,” alongside Katie Siek, Tammy Toscos, Sunny Consolvo, and Kevin Butler.
The workshop brought together 49 researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and civil society to examine how the computing community can better support people who face heightened risks from technology-facilitated harms. The resulting CCC report synthesizes the workshop discussions and outlines a research roadmap for advancing responsible computing for at-risk users.
The report emphasizes the importance of sociotechnical approaches that go beyond technical solutions alone, including community-centered research methods, shared research infrastructure and training, stronger protections for researchers and participants, and institutional changes that can sustain responsible research practices.
Together, these recommendations provide a foundation for building computing research and technologies that more effectively recognize and respond to the needs of people who are disproportionately affected by digital risks.
